So lately the universe has been hinting to me that I should watch Twin Peaks again - the adverts for it are showing on Sky, McNerdcakes mentioned it last week, and my brother described a roasted chicken he found at the back of the fridge as "dead, wrapped in plastic." Never one to ignore signs from the great Liamneeson, I of course have obeyed His will and dug out my old, non-Gold-Box DVDs.

On Saturday I had a few friends 'round that I haven't seen in nearly a decade - we all went to the College of Knowledge together back in the day, but our contact over the last ten years has all been via text messages, so we decided to have a movie-fest/catch-up/crazed-almost-fatal-sugar-high extravaganza.

When they turned up I was watching Twin Peaks, and it turns out that not a single one of them has ever heard of it.

You guys, this is totally inconceivable. Now I'm sad because Liamneeson is going to condemn all my old friends to Hell for not being cool enough to have seen Twin Peaks. I'm sort of tempted to try to save them from damnation by arranging a three-day Twin Peaks fest, where we watch the whole series and imbibe nothing but pie, coffee and doughnuts* until we all die from weirdness and sugar overload.

Clearly I will need to purchase the Gold Box edition before the event. I feel that is only right. Liamneeson would totally agree with me.

*Actually, I hate doughnuts, so I will subtly encourage them to bring pie and coffee only.

Never...heard...of Twin Peaks? O.o I mean, I have to admit that I haven't seen it since I was but a wee thing, but it's, like, a fucking Cultural Institution or some shit! Psyche spoofed it. Sesame Street spoofed it. Fucking Darkwing Duck spoofed it!

I cannot even.

I know right?! I mean, it's in the Simpsons, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Scream 2, at least one of the Toy Story movies, and practically every "weird shit happening in a small, isolated town"-type TV show will be refered to as "Tein Peaks for (blank)" at some point.

Was the Psych episode any good? I stopped watching after one season because while it was fun, it wasn't special enough for me to remember it's time slot, but I've been thinking about giving it another chance now.

I didn't actually see the Psych episode, unfortunately. I just remember it being mentioned online somewhere.

Hmm, maybe I'll YouTube it at some point - I'm mostly ambivilent to Psych but lately I have been so bored I've actually watched NCIS and Dexter so clearly I'm getting desperate. Maybe I should branch out. Or, you know, get a job.

How can they have never heard of "Twin Peaks"? How old are they? I can understand if they'd never seen it but never heard of it? That baffles me.

They're all between 27 and 30, so absolutely no excuse! The strangest bit for me is that two of them are massive Northern Exposure fans, and Northern Exposure is just Twin Peaks for wussies! The mind boggles.

They're just the right age to know all about it then! That's very strange. I haven't watched "Twin Peaks" in years (I can't remember if I even saw season two) but it's so iconic. Surely everyone knows about it!

I know, I sort of wonder if maybe their parents kept them locked in a cupboard under the stairs for much of their formative years, because that's the ONLY REASON I can think of for being so totally ignorant of the greatness that is Twin Peaks.

I'll admit I never watched the series but I was dragged to the movie (and had nightmares for days...)(yes, I'm pathetic. I've learned to embrace it).

But to have never even heard of it??? I live under a rock and even I've heard of it!

Wow, that must have made absolutely NO sense without seeing the series. In fact, it's kind of rubbish even if you've seen the show, so for you it must have sucked epically!

Well, they live on a rock, by which I mean the Isle of Man, but then so do I and if I can overcome my hideous, crippling geographic disability, there's no reason they couldn't do the same.

I think coffee and pie is a totally fair trade for SAVING THEIR SOULS FROM ETERNAL DAMNATION at the hands of Liamneeson.

LOL - I at least knew the premise, the general plot (even whodunnit) so I wasn't totally lost - although I spent a lot of time thinking "WTF is this?"
