May. 8th, 2009 12:50 amYou know, I had this whole post planned out about how I love Escaflowne and I was going to go through it and talk about all the little touches that made it so perfect and beautiful, but I just watched the movie and now all I cam think to say is:
HORSEY GO BOOM!
That is all.
That is all.

And Dryden was a bit sleezy instead of being awesome and bohemian like he is in the series. Merle was still likable but not as funny. Millerna was as bleh as ever, just in a different "I am a lame rip-off of Xena" way, and Allen was... actually, Allen was a bit less of a tool in the film.
At least Dilandau gets less of sucker-punch ending this way.
The bits I missed were the tiny moments, like in the first episode where Van cuts out the energist and the dragon crumbles to dust and there's this moment where he looks absolutely stricken at what he's done, before he snaps back into Arrogant Kinglet mode. And of course it's the scene that sets the tome for his whole relationship with Hitomi - he says something stupid and she bitch-slaps him for it.
