I sympathise. My hair is thick and a nice auburn red color, and was past my knees before I had to cut it (a traumatic incident). People constantly pulled and petted like I was some sort of animal myself. I was always creeped out by it, like "Who the hell are you, and why the hell are you touching me? Quit!"
