...why does the internet keep telling me Cecil has tentacles?

My bff jon keeps wondering this, too. IDK why it's such a prevalent headcanon. I don't hate it, but it's definitely not my favorite. I prefer Cecil to be mostly normal, a la the Addams Family. Like, they're pretty regular folks who just happen to be used to less-than-mainstream ways of life (and okay, maybe sometimes have unusual physical abilties/characteristics, but mostly regular), you know? That's much more interesting to me than if everyone in Night Vale's walking around being sekritly be-tentacled or whatever.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I accept that when dealing with fandom on the internet, a certain amount of tentacles is inevitable - as the old saying goes, where there's fandom, there's tentacles. Also catboys, regardless of how suitable the original canon is for either. I haven't checked, but I bet there's Sons of Anarchy tentacle fic and catboy art for Spartacus. But Night Vale seems like it's all tentacles, all the time. Mix it up a little, dudes. Let's at least get some catboy arts up in here.

It's a very popular idea. I don't like it though, just because if Carlos is all freaked out by slowly finding out that time is slowing down in Night Vale, he might have noticed that the radio presenter he keeps running into is covered in tentacles or has three eyes or whatever. And take things like 'time slowing down' with a bit more grace.

I'm not saying that dudes with tentacles should be ashamed or spend their whole lives in the tentacle closet or whatevs - it's just that Night Vale seems to be all tentacle, all the time.

Also, when I read that bit about Carlos handling time-shifts with more grace, I totally had Tony Stark in my head being like, "Time slows down sometimes. No need to be a pussy about it." And now I wanfic which is just Tony Stark being in Night Vale and straight up giving no fucks about any of it.
